A Sydney mum was horrified when she discovered mould on her five-month-old daughter's Mocka cot.
Changing the sheets on her five-month-old’s cot was supposed to be a quick job.
But instead, the simple task ended up bringing Katie’s entire day to a standstill after the Sydney mum-of-two made a horrifying discovery while switching over the bed linen.
When she flipped over the Mocka cot – she disturbingly found the entire underside of the cot covered in circles of fuzzy black mould.
“I was absolutely mortified at what I found… I was just beside myself, blaming myself for allowing my child to sleep in such dangerous conditions,” she tells Kidspot.

Katie initially bought hugely popular Mocka cots for her two-year-old son and five-month-old daughter after a friend recommended the brand to her.
“I also loved the look of them and they were at a decent price point,” she adds.
Katie never expected that the popular Australian company would let her down – until she discovered mould spores growing on her daughter’s cot last week.
To make matters worse, Katie doesn’t know where the bacteria came from… or how long it’s been there.
She had changed the sheets eight days earlier and hadn’t seen any mould, but doesn’t know if the spores had been too small to see.
“We were unaffected by the floods and there is no mould anywhere else in the room aside from the cot,” she explains.
“I then checked my son’s cot and saw that it had started growing on his too.”

Katie immediately replaced both cots – terrified that her kids had been “breathing in the severe effects of the toxins caused by black mould”.
“I’m incredibly worried about the immediate effects of the mould as my daughter has developed a wheeze and a cough,” she adds.
“She also had red irritated eyes… but those went away virtually immediately after we replaced the cot.”
After enduring that her kids were safe, Katie decided to publicly speak out about the mould – making a post on Instagram to encourage other parents to check their Mocka cots.
Although some reported that their children’s cots were fine, many others found similar growths, with one mum commenting that she found mould after her eight-month-old started “waking up with an unexplained cough”.
“Oh s**t! I have the same cot and just checked mine… the whole bottom of the cot is covered (in mould),” another parent added.
“When I started to see this was not an isolated event and the sheer hundreds of families that were checking and finding their cots covered in mould I was completely shocked,” Katie adds.

After seeing other parents with similar issues, Katie decided to reach out to Mocka to alert them to the mould issue.
“I want them to recall all of their cots… children’s safety is not something to be taken lightly,” she explains.
“I hope that we can see some change here for the many, many families affected. This is not something that young families should have to worry about, particularly when purchasing from a ‘trusted’ Australian company.”
So far, Mocka has not issued any recalls for their products, with a spokesperson telling Kidspot that they were in contact with Katie after learning about her experience on Saturday.
“We were very concerned to hear of her experience and are taking the matter very seriously,” they said.
“We also encouraged any other concerned customers to contact us so we could learn more about the circumstances and provide them assistance. The Mocka brand has a proud heritage of safety, quality product and affordable design, with family values at the heart of everything we do.
“At Mocka, we independently test all our products to all mandatory and voluntary Australian and New Zealand standards and choose to have an independent, third-party organisation oversee all our regulatory compliance.
“We are recommending concerned customers contact us and have increased our call centre support over the next week to support our Mocka community.”
