PHOENIX – Legends Furniture and sister company In2Rest have named bedding industry veteran Marty Melcher vice president of sales to lead the company’s continued push into the bedding segment.
The company, long known for its case goods lineup, has been producing Remedy Sleep and private-label mattresses for large retailers for more than 10 years. In 2018, the company entered the category with a memory foam line of mattresses available across all retail segments.
Melcher brings more than 25 years of bedding category experience to the new role. In his new position, Melcher will work with the Legends and In2Rest teams and sales representatives to grow company’s presence in the category.
Prior to joining the company, he was regional vice president of sales in the Pacific northwest and Rocky Mountain states responsible for sales development and growth of existing dealers at King Koil. He’s also spent 28 years with Serta Simmons Bedding, where he held several senior sales positions. Most recently, he was vice president of sales, where he led the company’s marketing program designed to boost advertising return for the company’s retail network.
He joined Serta in 1991 as a territory manager for central California, in 1997 became district sales manager in Southeast Texas and was later promoted to vice president of sales for New England. During his time with the company, Melcher also held the positions of group vice president of sales and vice president of sales for industry buying groups.
I’m Sheila Long O’Mara, executive editor at Furniture Today. Throughout my 25-year career in the home furnishings industry, I have been an editor with a number of industry publications and spent a brief stint with a public relations agency where I worked with some of the industry’s leading bedding brands. I rejoined Furniture Today in December 2020 with a focus on bedding and sleep products. It’s a homecoming for me, as I was a writer and editor with Furniture Today from 1994 until 2002. I’m happy to be back and look forward to telling the important stories impacting bedding retailers and manufacturers.
